  2.           TRICKING THE ICOM R71A TO TUNE BELOW 100 KHZ

  7.      The ICOM R71A general coverage receiver is designed for
  8.      VLF reception down to about 97 kHz.
  9.  
  10.      The following steps will  confuse  the  microprocessor-
  11.      based  controller sufficiently to permit reception down
  12.      to 0.0 kHz:
  13.  
  14.        1.  If all 32 memory  channels  contain  frequencies,
  15.            use  the FUNC and CLEAR buttons to clear a memory
  16.            channel.

  18.        2.  Place VFO/M switch into the M (Memory) position.
  19.  
  20.        3.  Using all the manual dexterity  you  can  muster,
  21.            rock  the  MAIN TUNING knob back and forth, while
  22.            simultaneously rocking the MEMORY-CH rotary  con-
  23.            trol  to  switch  back and forth between a memory
  24.            channel with a frequency in it and a clear memory
  25.            channel.
